Editorial policy
Open Festival Journal aims to make festival culture legible without dressing opinion up as fact. We explain what a piece is based on, keep claims proportionate, and make changes when we get something wrong.
Accuracy and context
We check factual statements against suitable material before publication and distinguish established information from interpretation. Comparisons are framed with their limits; a custom, design choice or festival format should not be presented as universal when it varies. We do not invent sources, quotations or experience.
Independence
Editorial decisions belong to the publication. A partner or contributor does not receive control over our conclusions in exchange for support or placement. Where a relationship could affect how a reader understands a piece, we make that relationship clear.
Corrections
If a reader spots an error, they can contact us through the Contact page and identify the passage and the issue. We review the concern, correct material errors and clarify meaningful changes to published pieces. We do not silently preserve a known factual error.
Partner material and illustrations
Paid or otherwise arranged partner content and placements are clearly identified as such, so readers can distinguish them from independent editorial work. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; when an illustration is AI-generated, we label it and do not present it as documentary evidence.
