Write for us
We welcome pitches that make one part of festival culture easier to notice or understand. A strong proposal has a defined question, a clear reader in mind and a subject that can stand on its own without invented access or unsupported claims.
What we welcome
We consider concise explanatory pieces, comparisons, histories, close readings of festival design and thoughtful guides to a particular kind of occasion. Possible subjects include how a programme shapes a day, what a keepsake is meant to do, or how a recurring custom changes when a gathering moves. Keep the focus on festival culture rather than event promotion.
Make the pitch specific
Send a short summary of the central idea, the approach you would take and why it suits Open Festival Journal. Name the key examples or materials you would rely on, and flag uncertainty or limits in what you can establish. We value clear reasoning over grand claims, and practical usefulness that does not depend on local rules, professional authority or first-hand testing.
How to send it
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option to send your proposal. Include any relevant writing samples or background in the message if you wish, but do not send confidential material. A pitch is a proposal, not a guarantee of publication.
